Spratt Votes With Pelosi 97.8% of the Time

Thursday, 31. December 2009 15:56

A letter to the editor was published in the Sumter Item that references a Washington Post article indicating that John Spratt has voted with the ultra left Nancy Pelosi and other far left leaders of the Democrat Party 97.8% of the time.  Excuse me, but does this sound like the voting record of someone considered to be a “moderate” Democrat?

Spratt Supports Keeping the Death Tax

Saturday, 26. December 2009 18:45

Death Tax

Imagine you’ve worked hard your whole life.   You have a nice home in a safe neighborhood and good schools for your family.  You send your kids to a great college so that they can get a good education and make a life for themselves.  You’ve been responsible and save for retirement and after all of these years of work and success you expect to be able to leave that for your family so that they’ll be taken care of after you’re gone.

John Spratt doesn’t think you should be able to do that.  This is his statement on the repeal of the Death Tax.

“The total repeal would have substantial additional impact on revenues,” said Rep. John Spratt, D-S.C. “And this is also a time when we need to — we simply can’t be profligate about tax cuts. And we think we struck a good balance.”

The Herald-Dispatch

Ask yourself if this is the representation you want in Congress for another two years or longer?

Spratt Votes to Throw Away Another $154 Billion

Sunday, 20. December 2009 19:04

Jack Spratt voted to once again throw another $154 billion of money our country doesn’t have at “stimulus” that doesn’t work.  As we rack up more debt and print more money, our nation’s credit is on shaky ground and our money is losing its value.  China recently announced that the world cannot continue to buy U.S. treasuries.

Spratt Votes for $1.1 Trillion in New Spending

Saturday, 12. December 2009 11:21

A $1.1 trillion spending bill laced with budget increases and more than 5,000 congressional pet projects passed the House on Thursday amid criticism from Republicans and watchdog groups.

The package — which combines six annual spending bills into one — includes $447 billion in operating expenses, with an average increase of 10%, and more than $600 billion for Medicare and Medicaid.

It was approved 221 to 202 and now moves to the Senate. No House Republicans voted for the bill, and 28 Democrats broke with their party to oppose it.

USA Today

Not surprisingly, John Spratt was one of the 221 to vote for driving our nation further into bankruptcy and mortgaging our children’s and great-grandchildren’s futures.  When our nation is $12 trillion in debt we cannot afford to continue spending trillions of dollars a year and increasing entitlement programs.  John Spratt’s vote is irresponsible and is hypocritical of his claim that he hardly ever votes against his constituents.  If that were true, why is he trying to ruin your kids’ futures?

Spratt Makes “Dem Retirement Assault List”

Saturday, 12. December 2009 11:13

An informal list of 17 members the NRCC believes can be convinced to step down, privately called the “Dem Retirement Assault List,” makes clear the party needs Dem incumbents to step aside if they have hopes of taking back the majority. The NRCC has taken pains to attack those lawmakers in recent weeks.

The list includes 14 members whose districts voted for Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) in ‘08. McCain won districts held by Reps. Ike Skelton (D-MO) and Bart Gordon (D-TN) with more than 60% of the vote, and districts held by Reps. Rick Boucher (D-VA), Alan Mollohan (D-WV), Marion Berry (D-AR), Nick Rahall (D-WV) and Mike Ross (D-AR) with more than 55%.

McCain narrowly won seats held by Reps. John Spratt (D-SC), Allen Boyd (D-FL), Vic Snyder (D-AR), Baron Hill (D-IN), Earl Pomeroy (D-ND), Tim Holden (D-PA) and Collin Peterson (D-MN).

Hotline

I don’t get any inclination that Spratt is just going to decide to retire.  We’re going to have to hand him papers in the voting booth next November.  It’s nice to see that he’s finally on the NRCC’s list, however.

Spratt Votes to Allow Federal Government to Seize Businesses

Friday, 11. December 2009 15:41

Earlier today Congressman John Spratt voted in support of House Bill 4173, the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2009. This is the sweeping financial “reform” that President Obama has been touting since he began his campaign for office last year. Of the many things this bill will do, not only will it create another Federal bureaucracy, but it will also allow the Federal government to seize and shut down businesses that they think could harm the economy. Exactly who makes that determination? John Spratt? Other members of Congress who can’t even manage the American economy? Perhaps it will be unelected bureaucrats and cronies of the political party running Washington at that time?

How could John Spratt think that the American people could support giving the Federal government the authority to take someone’s business from them the way Hugo Chavez does in Venezuela or the way the Mao Zedong did in China? Such power is unconstitutional and should it get signed into law, I hope someone in the financial industry will take this to the Supreme Court.

Mulvaney Warns of Spratt-Pelosi Plan to Raise Federal Debt Limit

Monday, 7. December 2009 20:51

ROCK HILL, S.C.—December 7, 2009—Today, S.C. Senator Mick Mulvaney issued a stern criticism of a plan by U.S. Congressman John Spratt and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca.) to increase the borrowing limit of the federal government. Mulvaney, a Republican from Indian Land, is challenging 14-term Democrat Congressman John Spratt in South Carolina’s fifth district.

Earlier this year, Spratt and Pelosi led the fight to increase the $12.1 trillion debt-limit by $925 billion to $13 trillion. Congress has already reached $12 trillion in debt and by the summer of 2010 the House-passed increase will all be spent and Congress will be forced to raise the debt limit just months before Congressional elections.

“It’s bad enough that Mr. Spratt wants to saddle future generations with record-breaking debt,” Mulvaney said, “but for him to conspire with Speaker Pelosi to ram a second increase through, and do so in order to avoid tough votes with an eye towards next year’s elections is unconscionable.”

“For years we’ve heard about John Spratt’s passion and concern about federal deficits and the national debt.” Mulvaney said. “If he is truly concerned about either, he’ll walk into Speaker Pelosi’s office, demand that Congress stop spending money we don’t have and offer a plan that cuts federal spending.”

“As Chairman of the House Budget Committee, John Spratt is finally in a position to do for us what he’s been promising for years,” Mulvaney said. “Congressman Spratt, stop the spending. Pay off the national debt. Eliminate the federal deficit.”
